Let’s Talk About 420

Yes, 420. It is basically the independence day of all cannabis users across the United States. It’s the day that people can come together and share in something that brings them great joy and happiness each and every day. Some marijuana users value 420 as a more important day than Christmas. It’s understood why someone might miss work, school, or other responsibilities and obligations on 420.

After all, this is the national holiday for cannabis! 420 is the time to sit back on the couch with a good TV show on while smoking a bowl with the buddies. The history behind 420 is quite interesting, and there are a surprising amount of potheads who have no idea how the weed-focused holiday even began. How did 420 become that day that all marijuana users know and love? Who on earth started this glorious day? Well, we wanted to go ahead and write this article about some interesting facts regarding 420. We know that April 20th is still many months away at this point, but we hope that you still find this interesting while you wait in eager anticipation for the 20th of April to come around again.

So how did this holiday start? The weed community may possibly be up in arms about various interpretations about how 420 began, but we have credible sources that cited the earliest evidence of 420 being started by a group of friends in high school. Yes, we are being for real! Apparently, a group of high school students in California always joked about 4:20 being the perfect time to light up after school. Naturally, as this was occurring in 1971 when weed was not legalized in any state or in any form, the group of friends had to keep things a secret, so they did not talk about these events openly.

420 was a code name for how they would meet up after school and engage in some illegal activities together. At some point, this name caught on and was therefore adopted by the rest of the cannabis community during that time period. This means that some people’s favorite holiday was actually started by some dumb high school sstudents smoking weed. And to further push back against the dumb and ambitious weed-smoker stigma that so many in this country like to talk about, all these young men went on to have great careers in their various fields. So next time you light up on 420, remember that all of it can be traced back to these guys.

Another fun fact about 420 is that the government in Denver Colorado had to change their highway signs. The department of transportation in Colorado had to replace one of their road signs on interstate 70 because the sign read “Mile 420” on it. We can all guess what people did because of this sign – that’s right, they stole it! People love to keep road signs for some reason, and I guess this sign was just too good to pass up for anybody who enjoys the casual marijuana puff here and there.

The sign kept going missing time after time, and eventually the administrators decided to just change the mile market, since there appeared to be no end to the cannabis-related theft. Funnily enough, Colorado is not the only state that has had to change their road signs because of the infamous 420. Idaho and Washington have both had to change mile markers due to repeated signs going missing. Who knew that the cannabis community was so into stealing road signs? If you ask me, it’s all in fun and in the name of marijuana.

Inhalation or Ingestion for cannabis

Cannabis has more and more benefits than ever before, and you may wonder which one is for you. Cannabis inhalation or ingestion are two things to consider. It’s based on the type of experience you want to have whether you want to feel things if you’re looking for something without smoke or smells, and if you want a high or something that just makes you feel good, whether you want it to work right away or not.

What’s Better

Now, let’s look at the two ways to do it. First, you’ve got inhalation, which you can feel in just a few seconds up to a few minutes and they last up to 4 hours.  This can sometimes take a bit longer with something that you ingest, which can be up to 90 minutes, but this can last up to 8 hours or more, depending on the dosage.

The high is also quite different as well, so keep that in mind.

Inhaling cannabis does have a small to it, but also, ingestion doesn’t have a small, nor does it create the smoke.

All about inhalation

Inhalation basically is when you inhale the THC, it goes into the bloodstream, and then, via the lungs, it goes to the brain. When you learn how to do this, at first, it can be quite harsh. Usually, you either take this with a joint, or a pipe, and usually, you just smoke this for a moment or two.

Some people think holding it will have you have a much higher high, but the truth is, it causes the resin to hit the lungs.

The sudden feeling of highness after having a hit, is not due to the weed itself, but it’s due to the deprivation of oxygen.

Some people tend to cough, but the best way to keep that at bay is to use a percolator on your piece, try to test the filters, vape, or try to add some ice to the bong.

Vaping is usually the best way to inhale if you don’t want the smell or the smoke, and you typically get this trough a vape pen or a dab rig.  Usually, patients are able to create their own concentrates or other setups, or they can purchase other options from the dispensary. It can dilate the airways due to the THC as well.

What about Ingestion

This is where you eat or drink something, and this usually takes longer, since it must be digested and then metabolized through the liver before it works. The edibles high is much different, and a lot more potent and psychoactive because the body creates a much stronger THC high than regular cannabis smoking.

Ingesting is much easier than just traying to inhale weed, since it’s like eating foods.

However, while it’s similar to eating regular foods, don’t try to eat these like a food, and have a ton of it.  If you don’t’ properly dose this, it creates bad effects. Try a little bit, and then wait before it works.

If you do this with a product that’s sublingual though, you’ll get a much faster high, since it’s made to enter the blood vessels and et you high real fast. So what’s better? There is no better way for you to do it. It’s definitely based on the type of relief that youwnat to have.

Do you need instant relief, or do you want to make the relief a lot longer? For the former, learn to inhale, but for the latter, a good ol’ THC edible will do the trick, and work well.

How to Use Medical Cannabis in the Summer

Medical cannabis is some of the most versatile stuff. Whether your vape it, consume it through edibles, or even drink it, there are tons of great ways to utilize cannabis, and it’s all becoming more innovative than before. Summer is something that definitely also changes the way you’re able to utilize cannabis, and you’re definitely going to experience a lot of the benefits that it offers. Here’s our favorite ways to consume cannabis during the summer, and why some methods are better than others.

Smoking It

Smoking is one of the best ways to use it, as it’s pretty traditional. Whether you use rolling papers, joints, water pipes, bongs, or regular pipes, this is one of the top ways to use it.

It does contain certain cannabinoids, and as it enters the lungs, it then is used.

This is one that’s the cheapest, and the effects are fast, about 15 minutes or less. However, this is also a bit risky, since it can have carcinogens within it. Smoking via a joint or pipe is also considered the cheapest though, especially for those who don’t want to invest too much.

Vaping

This is the new popular way to take in cannabis, since it is a nice alternative. It’s smokeless, and it basically involves heating up the marijuana turning it into vapor, and then it gets absorbed when you inhale this.

Again, this is another fast-acting sort of means, and usually within 15 minutes, you’re good. It also takes out the carcinogens, and you’re not having to worry about the effects of that. It’s also more flavorful.

The major disadvantage is the cost, since it requires more specific equipment. But with dry vapes possibly taking the market, this could change for many people.

Edibles

Edibles are easy and effective, and considered one of the best ways to have cannabis if you want long lasting effects. This is one where you eat it, and then, it gets broken down, with the liver converting this to the right cannabinoids to distribute into your bloodstream.

This is great because you can have as much or as little as you want. However,  always go slow, until you know your limit. The biggest disadvantage is that these are not predictable, so you could green out on accident, and they take a bit for them to work.

Tinctures and Oils

This is another popular way, and it works similar to how edibles do. The biggest disadvantage is that they’re super discreet, so if you’re in a state that still frowns down upon this, you don’t have to worry about judgment. They’re small enough for you to hide it in a bag too.

The disadvantage is that it’s not as bioavailable, and some people don’t like the taste of them. they taste very much like weed, so keep that in mind. Plus, it doesn’t have the best terpene profile either, but if you want it quick and easy, with immediate effects while being discreet, you’re in luck.

Dabbing

Dabbing is one of the new [popular ways. Basically, you heat up the concentrates to a very low temperature, and then inhale this. The biggest advantage, but also the disadvantage, is that these guys pack a punch. Concentrates are known for being some of the strongest stuff out there and for newbies, this can be too potent.

Plus, the equipment is very expensive, but if you use medical cannabis for a bit, and you want something that’s a bit more potent, this may be the right one for you, just be mindful of the effects.
