Looking for a Career in Cannabis?

It is no secret that the marijuana industry is absolutely exploding right now, and it looks like it will continue to grow in the coming decades. Why is that? Because more and more states across America are finally starting to see the effectiveness of using marijuana as a form of medical treatment, and millions of Americans are using cannabis to relieve their symptoms of chronic diseases, pain, and various medical conditions that cannot be treated in the same way by other drugs or medications. Many business owners and entrepreneurs are trying to get involved in this industry while they still can and make money as it continues to grow. Are you looking for a career in cannabis? I don’t blame you! This industry is growing fast and more jobs are needed everyday.

If you are working in the cannabis industry, you can at least be sure of job security (that is if governments do not get in the way of legalizing marijuana). Personally, I believe that marijuana will be legalized on a federal level in the coming years, and that will bring the industry to an all time high as far as revenue goes. If you live in a state that has legalized cannabis, then you can definitely find a job in the industry if you know where to get started. Not only are there some lower end jobs in this market, but you can also find extremely well paying and well respected jobs in the cannabis industry. Plus, marijuana is in such high demand right now and will continue to be in the coming decades. Many dispensaries are having trouble simply keeping up with demand and keeping their products on the shelves. With that being said, we have some resources and opportunities below that might be able to help you get started on your cannabis career journey.

The first position that you can consider in the medical marijuana industry is working at a dispensary. This one is obvious and is in huge demand right now. As more states legalize medical and recreational marijuana across the country, dispensaries are seemingly popping up out of nowhere. You should be able to find an open position for a budtender at a dispensary near you if you look hard enough. The main thing to keep in mind about being a budtender is that you have to have great customer service skills. Not only that, but you need to be well informed about medical marijuana products and how they can help various conditions for medical patients that inquire. Many customers ask for advice on which strain to get regarding their specific symptoms. Granted, you are not a doctor, so you do not need to know everything about their illness. However, you should be able to provide customers with knowledge about basic marijuana products and strains that could be helpful for them. As we know from our prior run in with a pandemic, dispensaries are pretty much recession-proof. In fact, more medical marijuana was sold in the United States in 2020 than ever before, and it was even labeled as an essential service in some states. Talk about job security! WIth that being said, being a budtender is a pretty solid gig and can pay anywhere from $30k to $80k a year depending on your location and type of dispensary you work at.

There are also plenty of jobs available in the cannabis industry for people who want to become master growers who supply chain managers. The marijuana industry is becoming bigger and bigger, and soon many companies will be looking for well educated professionals to run business operations and STEM personnel to assist in growing and maintaining the cannabis plants.

While marijuana is generally considered a risk free drug, it is true that many problems can occur if you are mixing prescription medications with drugs or alcohol. Every doctor will tell you how important it is to be completely transparent with what medications you are taking or plan on taking before you apply to get your medical marijuana card. In all honesty, I hope that we can soon see a day where medical marijuana is readily available for everyone in the United States. However, I think it is important to educate people on the problems that cannabis can create if it is taken with other medications.
